On Saturday 12 December at 7.30pm, the West Australian Symphony Orchestra will perform its biggest event of the year – a free outdoor concert at Langley Park. Attracting 20,000 picnic-goers last year, and broadcast live to regional venues and gatherings throughout the state, the annual City of Perth Symphony in the City has become an essential part of summer in WA.
In an exciting first, the 2015 concert will be hosted by Australian multi award-winning actor Stephen Curry. Having become a household name with his breakout role as Dale Kerrigan in The Castle, Stephen has enjoyed a celebrated career across film, television and stage, and will bring a unique touch to this popular event.
Geared for the community, this is the perfect opportunity to pack a picnic and enjoy world-class symphonic music at a magic, open-air setting in the heart of Perth. For the first time, City of Perth Symphony in the City will be conducted by WASO’s Principal Conductor, Israeli-born Asher Fisch. The concert program will feature highlights from WASO’s 2016 season, including Gustav Holsts’ Mars from The Planets, the beautiful Lacrimosa from Mozart’s Requiem, and John Williams’ memorable film music from Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, and E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial. Now in its ninth year, this event will also feature the WASO Chorus, who will join with the orchestra to perform Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture as an explosive finale.
Thanks to the generous support of Lotterywest, this event will be broadcast live across regional Western Australia to a number of large community events and smaller gatherings. Residents in Kununurra can enjoy the concert live, screened at the Kununurra Picture Gardens via the Westlink VAST Channel 602.
