Re-broadcast on 11 November in honour of Remembrance Day, the play went for just under two hours and was a witty, engaging and enlightening story showcasing a different aspect of Australia’s history. World War 1 was a time when colour was forgotten and men fought and died side by side for their country’s sake. It was the start of a turning point in Australian history that opened the eyes, raised the expectations and challenged many people’s thinking before, during and after the war. Black Diggers was a thought-provoking play with a strong and relevant message about equality and unity as Australians, which was well received by the attendees. |
